April 4, 1999 - April 10, 1999

Sunday, April 4
The weekend storm cleared out and I suggested we go to Edgewood Park for a hike and a peek at the early wildflowers. The day was exceptionally clear, and from the top of the trail you could see Mount Tamalpias, Mount Diablo, and Mount Hamilton. There were poppies and - to my delight - shooting stars. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen so many shooting stars.

Then we headed into The City. It was my intent to show support for the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence by attending their street party despite the Roman Catholic church's objections to it being held on Easter. We did attend, but it was not an interesting event and we soon left.

Don arrived by train again and walked to the Glyphic office ("Glyphic Towers," as he likes to call it). I saw him walk in the building from our window on the eighth floor, and when he didn't show up in the office within five minutes, I went looking for him. Of course, by the time I went down to the lobby and came back up, he was already sitting at my desk, trying out the latest version of the FieldTester. I introduced him to my colleague, Brad (Mark was away on vacation, attending his mother's wedding).

After a light dinner at my house, we went to Mike's. Don had met Mike at Mike's birthday party a few weeks ago. Now, Mike was hosting a FrontRunners video night, showing Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? The movie's appeal was, of course, the over-the-top performances from both Davis and Crawford, and we all enjoyed the classic lines: "But cha ahrr, Blanche, ya ahrr in a wheelchair." Don seemed to handle the paranoid scenes without any upset, and commented once, when Crawford was feeling trapped in her wheelchair, "Been there."

Saturday, April 10
We got to the FrontRunners FunRun in time to hear the announcements, but not to hear where coffee would be afterwards. As the run started, I asked someone I thought would know, and he said "the New Sophia's." It had rained for two days before and I was not interested in walking along the muddy levy, so we headed back along the paved portion of the route, then drove the car to Sophia's in Mountain View. It was my intention to show the Explorer off, so I wanted to get to a good spot before all the other guys arrived.

Alas, my information was incorrect, and we were the only FrontRunners at Sophia's that morning. Someone did stop and look at the car, though. I saw her circumnavigating it and peering in through the windows.

We headed from there to the office, where I worked at finishing up version 1.1 of the FieldTester while Don worked on his homework and dozed briefly. Somehow during the day, I also managed to get almost all of my laundry done, including taking my comforter to a laundromat so I could wash and dry it in the big machines there. As long as we were in the neighborhood of the laundromat, we took some time out to chat with Steve, a very handsome man at Thistledown Florists. Thistledown is a major supporter of the Silicon Valley Gay Men's Chorus.

Don and I made dinner together, then joined Steve in watching Grease. After showers, we snuggled into bed under clean flannel sheets.
