| Considering such spaciousness - |
| a universe expanding fast enough |
| to contain all the light |
| that issued forth |
| the instant of its birth - |
| what then are the odds, |
| given this vastness, |
| that you and I would |
| come together in this way? |
| And in our own |
| busy corners of the world, |
| it's even more remarkable |
| that neither of us seems to have |
| more pressing business right now |
| than attending to this simple |
| greeting from afar. |
| And for that leisure |
| we can be thankful together - |
| which is twice as good |
| as being thankful alone - |
| and take a moment to savor |
| the quality of the light |
| falling across this page, |
| that has come so very far |
| just to say, |
| "Hello." |
