Hard Bitz
A collection of poems about sexuality, poetry, and going to extremes.
The collection is divided into five sections:
- Earthquake Poems that seem designed to shake things up
- Steamworks Some of Don's most explicitly erotic poetry
- Pomes Poems about poetry and the process of trying to catch the world
in a net of words
- Bitz Fragments, musings, and epigrams that were often the seeds of later
poems
- Recovered Poems
The collection concludes with several "recovered" poems. As Don's poems
evolved, they occasionally shed several lines or stanzas as they took
on their final shape. The recovered poems are reconstructed from these
"left overs." The last poem, "Having Cancer," is constructed from journal
entries and letters Don wrote in the last few months of his life.
